Sullivan’s Sword with the Southwell Community Archaeology Group in Southwell on 10/09/16

Southwell Community Archaeology Group is carrying out archaeological investigations, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, in the manor of the Burgage Southwell. The Burgage is a much loved open space in the heart of the town & has been in common use since time immemorial.

The Celebration event ‘The Burgage through the Ages’ will involve many groups from the town including volunteers, school children and REACH members in the preparation of  display material, artistic depictions, poetry, storytelling, cooking, dress, music and entertainments – a fun way for the whole town to experience their local heritage. This day of celebrating the town’s heritage will hopefully become a regular annual event.

The event which will be from 12.00 noon to 5.00 pm will bring the Burgage alive with a flavour of life from medieval times – there’s evidence of medieval occupation from the 12th to the 14th centuries – to the present day.

This event is part of the National Heritage Open Day Initiative. There will be no entrance charge for the public.
